Aged in tropical climate
--------------------------------------------------------------
The Caroni distillery in Trinidad closed in 2002, resulting in relatively few Official Bottlings (OBs). After its closure, various Independent Bottlers (IBs), particularly Velier, released many high-quality, heavy-hitting expressions, catapulting Caroni to fame, often leading people to call Caroni the 'Port Ellen of Rum'.
According to Serge's tasting notes, the nose on this bottling is average, but the Palate is wonderful.
It is believed that the relatively subdued nose resulted in the 87-point score.
--------------------------------------------------------------
According to Hampden (another distillery, not Caroni), aging for 7 years in a tropical climate results in an Angel's Share and maturation level equivalent to 25 years aged in Europe.
The ratio is approximately 1 : 3.5.
