Located in Trinidad, Caroni closed down in 2002. OB releases are relatively few. After its closure, various IB bottlers (especially Velier) released many high-quality, heavy expressions, bringing Caroni's fame to prominence, even leading some to call Caroni the Port Ellen of the rum world.

According to Serge's tasting notes, the nose of this bottling is average, but the palate is wonderful.
It is believed that the nose's relative weakness contributed to its 87-point score.

According to Hampden (another distillery, not Caroni), official statements suggest that 7 years of tropical climate aging is equivalent to 25 years of aging in Europe in terms of angel's share and maturation level.
The ratio is approximately 1 - 3.5.
