The legendary Caroni distillery in Trinidad shut down in 2002, resulting in relatively few Official Bottlings (OBs). Since its closure, various Independent Bottlers (IBs), notably Velier, have released high-quality expressions, causing Caroni's fame to skyrocket—leading some to call Caroni the 'Port Ellen of Rum'.
