Taketsuru 25 Years Old Pure Malt has repeatedly won the 'World's Best Blended Malt Whisky' at the World Whiskies Awards (WWA). This expression is a selection of the finest malts aged over 25 years from Nikka's two distilleries: Yoichi and Miyagikyo. It perfectly blends the powerful smokiness of Yoichi with the elegant floral and fruity notes of Miyagikyo, embodying the ultimate pursuit of Japanese whisky craftsmanship. The Taketsuru range was created to honor Masataka Taketsuru, the 'Father of Japanese Whisky.' Taketsuru traveled to Scotland in the early 20th century to learn the craft of whisky making, bringing that passion and expertise back to Japan. He played a key role in establishing the Yamazaki Distillery before founding Nikka Whisky and its Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries.
Taketsuru always believed in the art of blending. He felt that while single malts are wonderful, the master's hand in blending could harmonize different characteristics into a more complex and layered work. 'Pure Malt' refers to a blend of 100% malt whiskies without any grain whisky, which requires exceptionally high-quality base spirits.
As the pinnacle of the series, Taketsuru 25 Years Old symbolizes the sedimentation of time and the master's dedication. Every drop has breathed and transformed slowly over a quarter-century in the oak casks within the natural environments of Hokkaido's Yoichi and Sendai's Miyagikyo. It is not just a whisky, but a historical witness to heritage, love, and dreams. For collectors seeking the ultimate taste, this represents the highest standard of the golden age of Japanese whisky.
