Product Details

Taketsuru 21 Years Old is crafted by blending high-aged malt whiskies from Nikka's two major distilleries: Yoichi and Miyagikyo. The Yoichi malts provide a robust body and a hint of smoke, while the Miyagikyo malts bring elegant fruit and floral notes. This 'Pure Malt' technique allows the whisky to achieve a perfect balance between complexity and drinkability.

Read More Brand Story

Taketsuru Whisky was established to honor Masataka Taketsuru, the 'Father of Japanese Whisky.' In 1918, Taketsuru traveled alone to Scotland to learn whisky-making techniques and brought that passion back to Japan. He believed that natural environments and water sources were vital to making the best whisky, leading him to establish the Yoichi Distillery in Hokkaido and the Miyagikyo Distillery in Sendai.

Taketsuru 21 Years Old is the flagship expression of the brand. Unlike standard Blended Whisky, it is labeled as 'Pure Malt,' meaning it uses only malted barley without any grain whisky. Masters blenders skillfully combine the powerful peat flavors of Yoichi (reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands) with the gentle elegance of Miyagikyo (similar to the Lowlands).

Since the mid-2000s, Taketsuru 21 Years Old has frequently won the 'World's Best Blended Malt Whisky' title at the World Whiskies Awards (WWA). Due to the shortage of Japanese aged spirits, this 21-year-old expression has become a rare treasure for collectors worldwide, offering a sensory feast of warm wood notes and rich ripe fruit.
