Smögen is currently considered a high-age statement release for the distillery. While many Smögen expressions focus on Sherry casks, this particular bottling is primarily matured in Bourbon barrels.

Smögen is a Swedish distillery founded in 2009 by a lawyer and whisky enthusiast, Pär Caldenby. The name Smögen is derived from the local Swedish region. Though they have limited releases, several expressions from 2019 and 2020 achieved excellent scores on Whiskyfun (WF), drawing significant attention to this young distillery.

Online tasting note for reference:

Nose:
Vanilla pod earthiness bolstered by foresty, grassy peat. A touch of chocolate hiding away in there.
Palate:

Grilled orchard fruit and vanilla sponge, before waves of savoury peat and coastal air come along.

Finish:
The smoky notes remain for minutes afterwards, with hints of dried oak.
