Smögen is currently considered a high-age expression for the distillery. While many Smögen releases are primarily sherry-matured, this expression highlights bourbon casks.
Located in Sweden, the Smögen distillery was founded in 2009 by lawyer and whisky enthusiast Pär Caldenby. Smögen is also a geographical location in Sweden. Although production is limited, their 2019 and 2020 releases have received outstanding scores on Whiskyfun (WF), drawing significant attention to this young distillery.
Online tasting note for reference:
Nose:
Vanilla pod earthiness bolstered by foresty, grassy peat. A touch of chocolate hiding away in there.
Palate:
Grilled orchard fruit and vanilla sponge, before waves savoury peat and coastal air come along.
Finish:
The smoky notes remain for minutes afterwards, with hints of dried oak.
