Founded in 1823, Mortlach was the first legal distillery in Dufftown. Its uniqueness lies in the '2.81 distillation' process, designed in 1896 by Alexander Cowie, an engineer with a medical background who brought scientific precision to distilling. Using six stills of different shapes and sizes, the spirit travels through complex paths to produce a 'meaty' and incredibly layered new-make spirit.
For a century, Mortlach was primarily a key component in premium blends like Johnnie Walker.
