- Aroma: Powerful, punchy peat smoke accompanied by spices, liquorice, and a generous amount of sea salt. Recent expressions show a hint of delicate sweetness, perfectly integrated with classic iodine, bandages, and cold wood smoke.
- Palate: Dominated by seaweed flavors, revealing notes of cardamom, vanilla ice cream, and medicinal tonics (TCP, bandages). The oak presence is strong, followed by layers of nutmeg, black pepper, and chili spice.
- Finish: Full-bodied and dry, with a complex lingering of tar and iodine.
- Summary: This is the only Laphroaig expression that former distillery manager John Campbell recommended drinking with water. Adding water significantly opens the palate, revealing surprisingly rich layers of flavor.

The Laphroaig distillery is located on the south coast of Islay, Scotland. Since its founding in 1815 by the Johnston brothers, it has maintained an invincible position in the whisky world with its unique flavor profile. The name Laphroaig means 'beautiful hollow by the broad bay' in Gaelic, and its flavor is indeed as powerful as a coastal storm.
One of the distillery's most famous traditions is its insistence on 'Floor Maltings,' being one of the few remaining distilleries in Scotland to do so. They own their own peat bogs on the island, where the peat contains a higher proportion of seaweed and lichen, which is the key source of Laphroaig's unique medicinal, iodine, and salty taste.
In 1994, HRH Prince Charles (now King Charles III) visited the distillery and granted it the Royal Warrant, making Laphroaig the only single malt whisky brand to receive this honor. Every bottle of Laphroaig 10 Years Old carries over two centuries of craftsmanship and the primal soul of Islay, inviting every drinker to explore that charming and deep peat realm.
