Read the Brand Story
Kilkerran is not the name of the distillery; it is produced at the Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown. Founded in 1872 by William Mitchell, the distillery closed in 1925 due to the Great Depression. After being silent for nearly 80 years, it was purchased and revived in 2004 by J&A Mitchell, the owners of the legendary Springbank Distillery.
The name Kilkerran was chosen because the Glengyle trademark was owned by another company. It is derived from the Gaelic 'Ceann Loch Cille Chiarain', meaning 'Head of the lake of the church of Saint Kieran', the original name of the settlement that became Campbeltown. Production is strictly 'small batch, high quality', sharing the same artisanal team as Springbank. This 12-year-old expression showcases the classic Campbeltown character: light peat smoke, rich oiliness, and a memorable maritime saltiness.
