Since establishing its distillery in Yilan, Taiwan, in 2005, Kavalan has shocked the global whisky world with its unique tropical climate maturation method. Due to the sub-tropical high temperatures in Yilan, the interaction between the whisky and the oak casks is extremely rapid, allowing Kavalan's expressions to display the rich palate and mature charm of high-aged Scotch whiskies in a short period.
The 'Concertmaster' series is inspired by the first chair performers in an orchestra, symbolizing the blender acting as a conductor to create flavors that are distinct yet perfectly blended. This Sherry Cask Finish is the second chapter of the series. Unlike the first Port Cask Finish, this expression focuses on presenting the rich aromas of dark dried fruits, walnuts, and honey brought by the sherry casks. By first using refill casks for maturation, the blender can precisely control the purity of the base spirit, preventing excessive woody tannins from masking the distillery's tropical fruit DNA. This delicate 'finishing' process allows the liquid to absorb the essence of the sherry cask while maintaining excellent balance and drinkability, making it an ideal choice to experience the charm of Taiwanese whisky.
