The name Kavalan comes from the indigenous people of Yilan County. Situated on the Lanyang Plain, the distillery is backed by the Central and Xueshan Mountain ranges, providing access to exceptionally pure water. Kavalan Classic challenged traditional whisky concepts. While Scottish whiskies often take decades to mature, the heat and humidity of Taiwan accelerate the interaction between wood and spirit, known as 'accelerated maturation'.
These unique climatic conditions allow Kavalan Classic to extract rich esters and tropical fruit flavors in a shorter timeframe. This whisky is a blend of several cask types, including Bourbon for creamy vanilla, Sherry for dried fruit layers, and refill casks for pure fruitiness.
