The history of the Benromach Distillery is a legend of rebirth. As one of the smallest distilleries in Speyside, it survived multiple closures and reconstructions. In 1993, the family-owned independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail (G&M) acquired the distillery and embarked on a five-year restoration. G&M's vision for Benromach was clear: to bring back the lost traditional Speyside flavor.
While many modern Speyside whiskies pursue pure sweetness and floral notes, G&M believed early Speyside whiskies should possess a touch of smoke. Thus, Benromach incorporates a small amount of peat smoke, setting its style apart from neighbors. The 21-year maturation allows the spirit to develop deep viscosity through long-term interaction with the wood and air. The use of First Fill casks ensures the barrels significantly influence the spirit, delivering full-bodied notes of heather, dried fruit, and oak spice without being overly sharp. This 21-year expression is not just a milestone of age, but a testament to Benromach's commitment to the 'Handcrafted Whisky' philosophy.
