Product Details
Acquired by the renowned independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail (G&M) in 1993, Benromach is dedicated to recreating the long-lost traditional style of the Speyside region. This 10-year-old expression insists on using expensive first-fill casks for maturation, perfectly blending rich fruit sweetness with a subtle hint of smoky peat to showcase a deep body.

Founded in 1898, the Benromach Distillery has seen many ups and downs, including several closures. The turning point came in 1993 when it was taken over and revitalized by the legendary bottling masters Gordon & MacPhail. The G&M family did not aim to create the modern trend of extreme sweetness; instead, they were committed to restoring the 'Golden Age' style of 1960s Speyside—an old-fashioned profile featuring light peat and immense complexity.
What makes this 10-year-old so special is the rigorous cask selection process. The distillery exclusively uses 'First-fill casks,' meaning the casks have only held bourbon or sherry once before being filled with Benromach spirit, providing the most concentrated oak essence and aroma. The maturation recipe consists of 80% first-fill bourbon and 20% first-fill sherry casks, with a final year of marrying in first-fill sherry casks, resulting in a unique Speyside masterpiece where smoke and fruit coexist.
