Product Details

Benromach was acquired in 1993 by the renowned independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail (G&M), dedicating itself to recreating the long-lost traditional style of Speyside. This 10 Year Old expression insists on maturation in premium 1st Fill Casks, perfectly blending rich fruit sweetness with a subtle touch of peat smoke, resulting in a liquid of exceptional depth.

Benromach Distillery was founded in 1898, experiencing historical ups and downs and facing multiple closures. The turning point came in 1993 when the legendary bottler Gordon & MacPhail took over and breathed new life into it. The G&M family members were not aiming to create the modern, extremely sweet style, but rather dedicated themselves to restoring the ‘old-style’ characterized by complex layers and a hint of peat—the signature flavor of Speyside's 'Golden Era' of the 1960s.

What makes this 10 Year Old expression special is its strict selection of casks. The distillery exclusively uses 'First-fill casks,' meaning the oak barrels have only held Bourbon or Sherry once before being filled with the Benromach spirit. This ensures the whisky receives the most concentrated essence and aroma from the oak. The maturation recipe consists of 80% First-fill Bourbon casks and 20% First-fill Sherry casks, finished for the final year in First-fill Sherry casks. This process achieves a classic masterpiece unique to the Speyside region, combining smoke and fruit simultaneously.
