Located on the Isle of Arran in Western Scotland, an area steeped in smuggling history, the Lochranza Distillery (formerly Arran Distillery), founded in 1995, carries this legacy. This whisky, named 'The Bodega,' is a tribute to the Spanish cellars that supply Scotland with premium Sherry casks.
While the Arran 12 Year Old Cask Strength was a cornerstone, when the brand redesigned its core range, The Bodega was officially added as a Non-Age Statement (NAS) expression delivering a more intense sherry profile. Maturing in Hogsheads (approx. 250 litres) rather than larger Butts (approx. 500 litres) increases the contact area between the spirit and the wood. This allows the whisky to absorb extremely rich dried fruit, spice, and oak tannins in a shorter time, resulting in a robust and full-bodied palate.
