anCnoc is not the name of the distillery itself, but the brand name originating from Knockdhu Distillery in the Scottish Highlands. The distillery was established in 1894, nestled at the foot of Knock Hill in Banffshire, Scotland. The brand was named anCnoc (which means 'The Hill' in Gaelic) to avoid confusion with another distillery named Knockando. This insistence on individuality is also reflected in its distillation process.
