Woodford Reserve推出首款標示年份的美國威士忌 - 限量12年登場

Woodford Reserve Launches First Age-Statement American Single Malt Whiskey - Limited 12-Year-Old Edition

Woodford Reserve has announced the launch of its first age-statement American single malt whiskey, officially entering this newly recognized spirits category. This limited-edition 12-year-old release will be available starting August 14, exclusively through Kentucky retailers and the distillery visitor center, as part of its Distillery Series.

This new offering differs from traditional bourbon production methods. Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall used 100% malted barley, triple pot distillation, and aging in used whiskey barrels instead of new oak barrels. McCall stated, This 12-year-old American single malt whiskey demonstrates the importance of extended aging in used barrels to unlock its full flavor potential. I believe this is one of the most authentic American single malt whiskeys, the first of its kind.

The release comes at a pivotal moment for American whiskey. The U.S. Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau recently established official standards for American single malt whiskey, creating a formal category that allows distilleries to distinguish their products from bourbon and rye whiskey. This regulatory change enables producers to explore new production methods while educating consumers about the unique characteristics of American single malt whiskey.

The 12-year aging period sets this whiskey apart from typical American whiskeys. According to official tasting notes, it features a burnt orange hue with aromas of soft caramel, sun tea, and pear. The palate offers sweet nutty malt and caramel flavors, followed by sun tea with hints of clove and lemon, finishing with lingering sun tea and lemon oil notes.

This whiskey joins Woodford Reserve's Distillery Series, which showcases experimental production techniques. Unlike the distillery's flagship bourbon, this single malt highlights how extended aging in used barrels creates a lighter color and more delicate flavor profile compared to new oak barrels.

Currently, this whiskey is only available through Kentucky retailers and the Woodford Reserve distillery in Versailles, with online orders via the brand's website for delivery to Kentucky, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Nebraska, and Washington D.C.

The launch of this age-statement American single malt whiskey signals growing interest from bourbon producers in this category. As more distilleries explore single malt production, this category is carving out its own identity in the American spirits landscape, offering whiskey enthusiasts alternatives beyond traditional bourbon and rye.
