Suntory announces price adjustments starting October 2025
Japanese beverage multinational Suntory has announced price adjustments for its products in the Japanese market, effective for shipments made after October 1, 2025. The company stated that due to ongoing economic pressures and rising costs in manufacturing and logistics, it can no longer fully absorb these expenses. The adjustments will affect various packaging types, including PET bottles and cans, though specific products were not detailed.
Suntory emphasized its commitment to technological innovation and productivity improvements to ensure the continued delivery of safe, reliable, and high-quality products. Japan's economy faces challenges such as an aging population, a shrinking workforce, and rising social welfare costs, which have constrained growth. Additionally, tariffs imposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump on Japanese imports have further impacted the economy.
Recent data shows that California has surpassed Japan as the world's fourth-largest economy, with Japan's growth lagging. Suntory, facing these market conditions, previously adjusted whiskey prices in October last year. CEO Takeshi Niinami stated that the company must enhance brand value to justify higher prices, noting that global tariff increases necessitated the whiskey price adjustments.
