Maker's Mark Cellar Aged 2026: Blended up to 14-Year Bourbon
Blending 11- to 14-Year-Old Stocks: Extending Maturation in Limestone Cellars
Kentucky handcrafted bourbon brand Maker's Mark has announced the release of Cellar Aged 2026, marking the fourth annual edition in this acclaimed series. Blending 11-, 12-, and 14-year-old aged bourbon stocks, this expression represents the distillery's oldest release to date. Staying true to the philosophy of aging for taste rather than time, it is bottled at a natural cask strength of 56.05% ABV (112.1 proof).
Precise Blending Ratios and Limestone Cellar Maturation
In terms of formulation, Cellar Aged 2026 is crafted from a precise marriage of 49% 11-year-old, 33% 12-year-old, and 18% 14-year-old bourbons. All barrels underwent initial aging in traditional rackhouses before being relocated to the LEED-certified underground cellar built inside the natural limestone shelf at Star Hill Farm. The cooler, stable environment allows for extended aging, amplifying rich fruit characteristics while preserving a delicate balance with oak tannins.
Flavor Profile and Layered Complexity
According to official distillery tasting notes, this release offers an intensely layered experience. The nose reveals dark cherries, cloves, vanilla beans, and delicate orchard fruits. On the palate, rich flavors of honey, brown sugar, and ripe plum take center stage, leading into a warm, velvety finish accented by almond, nutmeg, and crisp green apple.
Rob Samuels, Managing Director and eighth-generation whisky maker at Maker's Mark, noted that when his grandparents Margie and Bill Samuels Sr. founded the distillery at Star Hill Farm in 1953, the limestone-filtered water established the core character of their bourbon. Carving the cellar into that very limestone shelf continues to honor the land's defining role. Master Distiller Dr. Blake Layfield added that this expression showcases how patience, precision, and understanding wood-liquid dynamics allow the whiskey to achieve its peak balance in the cool underground cellar.
Wheat Recipe Legacy and Global Availability
Founders Margie and Bill Samuels Sr. revolutionized bourbon in 1953 by using soft red winter wheat instead of rye, establishing the brand's signature smooth, full-flavored profile. Cellar Aged 2026 will launch first at select US retailers on September 1, followed by phased releases across the UK, Germany, South Korea, Japan, Australia, and Global Travel Retail through late 2026 and 2027.
