Setting a Distillery Record for Oldest Age Statement! The Wills Family Unveils Rare Masterpieces
Renowned Islay distillery Kilchoman in Scotland has announced the launch of the brand-new Kilchoman Family Collection. This series includes four single malt whiskies of varying ages, most notably featuring the distillery's first-ever 20-year-old expression, making it the oldest general release the distillery has ever launched.
This new collection was hand-selected by members of the Wills family during an annual inventory review in the Kilchoman cellars. The four whiskies were personally chosen by five members of the founding family, with each expression perfectly reflecting their personal tastes, shared passion, and the continually evolving and maturing flavor profile of Kilchoman whisky.
Carefully Selected Islay Characteristics and Heavy Peat Malting Craftsmanship
The four whiskies released this time are aged 11, 14, 18, and 20 years. The 14-year-old expression is a 100% Islay characteristic whisky, distilled in 2011 from barley grown on their own Rockside Farm, with malting and peat smoking conducted entirely on-site. The remaining three use heavily peated malt from Port Ellen Maltings, showcasing Kilchoman’s traditional peated flavor profile.
As the distillery reaches this milestone of higher age statements, the collection also fully demonstrates the profound impact of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks on the spirit. Founder Anthony Wills stated that the Family Collection represents their most precious cask reserves, and as a family-run farm distillery, they look forward to sharing this achievement with whisky enthusiasts worldwide.
