9-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Combining Traditional and Innovative Mashbills

Renowned American distillery Heaven Hill Distillery recently announced its latest masterpiece, Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond Double Mash, a 9-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey. This expression blends two distinct mashbills, marking the distillery's first-ever innovative product of its kind and offering whiskey enthusiasts a refreshing new choice.

In terms of recipe proportion, this whiskey cleverly combines two-thirds of the traditional bourbon mashbill (containing 78% corn, 10% rye, and 12% malted barley) with one-third of the wheat bourbon mashbill (containing 68% corn, 20% wheat, and 12% malted barley). Both are aged for nine years and bottled at 100 proof in accordance with the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897.

Master Distiller Deconstructs the Dual Flavor Structure

Master Distiller Conor O’Driscoll noted that this innovation reflects the distillery's respect for traditional craftsmanship while pushing the boundaries of current regulations. Because U.S. regulations do not yet classify wheat bourbon independently, Heaven Hill was able to seamlessly merge traditional and wheat bourbons, creating a unique flavor profile that retains a traditional bourbon structure while offering the smooth character of wheat.

Regarding flavor performance, official tasting notes indicate a warm amber color with aromas of toasted oak, honey, and subtle white pepper. The palate delivers notes of honey and citrus oil, finishing with a lingering touch of caramel and baking spices. This new release joins Heaven Hill's rich portfolio, continuing to showcase its excellence as the world's largest family-owned and operated distillery.
