Gordon & MacPhail unveils world’s oldest single malt Scotch whisky - Glenlivet 85-year-old, crafted with Jeanne Gang

Scottish whisky specialists Gordon & MacPhail announced the October 2025 launch of the world’s oldest single malt Scotch whisky, Gordon & MacPhail 85 Years Old from Glenlivet Distillery, a historic creation involving American architect Jeanne Gang.

This whisky dates back to February 3, 1940, when George Urquhart and his father John, with remarkable foresight, filled an American oak cask from Gordon & MacPhail with Glenlivet distillery’s new-make spirit, intended for future generations. After 85 years of maturation—setting a record for the longest-aged single malt—only 125 bottles were produced at 43.7% ABV, showcasing unique flavors and historical significance.

With 130 years of expertise and four generations of family tradition, Gordon & MacPhail adheres to a timing-first philosophy, free from commercial pressures, ensuring each whisky reaches perfection before bottling. The company maintains exclusive partnerships with over 100 Scottish distilleries, crafting unparalleled premium whiskies.

To honor the Urquharts’ vision, Gordon & MacPhail commissioned Jeanne Gang to design a bespoke decanter. Gang noted parallels between whisky-making and architecture, emphasizing material and time, inspiring her to create a timeless piece. The first bottle (Decanter #1) will be auctioned by Christie’s New York, with proceeds benefiting American Forests, the oldest U.S. nonprofit dedicated to oak sustainability.
