FSS Warning - Stop Drinking Kimbland Distillery Spirits
Food Standards Scotland [FSS] has issued an urgent warning, advising the public not to buy or consume any whisky or gin produced by Kimbland Distillery. This alert comes ahead of the festive season and covers all products sold locally and online.
FSS stated that the distillery failed to comply with necessary safety controls and could not provide evidence that its products meet safety standards. The warning covers all whisky and gin manufactured by the business, whether for personal use or as gifts.
Consumers should avoid the following products - all sizes of New Make Spirit of Whisky, 70cl Sanday Tempest Gin, 70cl Sanday Sunset Gin, 70cl Sanday No.1 Gin, and all filled casks. FSS emphasized these items may pose health risks and should not be consumed under any circumstances.
Stuart McAdam, FSS Head of Incidents, said the warning follows close cooperation with local authorities. While distribution is mainly in Orkney, online sales mean products could be widespread. Enforcement authorities are identifying premises holding these products. The distillery is located on Sanday.
Owner Sebastian Hadfield Hyde told BBC Radio Orkney he was 'angry and saddened' by the warning, calling it a 'bolt from the blue'. He claimed no spirits were produced or sold in the last 18 months during construction. BBC reports the distillery says they ceased supply 18 months ago.
