Diageo Luxury Group has officially launched the new Rare Series, a collection designed to showcase Scotland's rich whisky heritage and craftsmanship. The inaugural release features five limited-edition whiskies from iconic regions, headlined by the company’s oldest-ever single malt: a 55-year-old expression from the closed "ghost" distillery, Glenury Royal. This series draws from Diageo's vast reserves, spanning the diverse terroirs of the North Highland coast, Islay, and the Isle of Skye.

Rare Releases from Classic Distilleries

The flagship Glenury Royal 1970 Rare Series was matured in American oak and married in European oak; stocks from this distillery have become increasingly rare since it ceased production in 1985. Additionally, the Caol Ila 1983 Rare Series marks the oldest-ever release from this Islay distillery, while the Clynelish 1983 Rare Series showcases its signature waxy character. These releases represent historical milestones and the brand's commitment to the ultra-premium market, sharing the legacy of rare casks with private clients worldwide.

Experimental Batches and the Pursuit of Craft

The collection also includes an experimental batch of Talisker 1992 Rare Series and the Blair Athol 1991 Rare Series, which features a first-time double-sherry cask finish. Master Blender Dr. Craig Wilson emphasized that every bottle embodies the pursuit of rarity and ultimate craftsmanship. Future Rare Series chapters will be released periodically based on maturation, available exclusively through the Private Client team, offering enthusiasts a prestigious connection to rare liquid history through bespoke tastings and invitation-only events.
