Clydebuilt Unveils New Whiskies with £5M Investment

Legacy of Shipbuilding: Ardgowan Invests £5M in Clydebuilt's New Chapter

Scotch whisky brand Clydebuilt recently unveiled four new whisky expressions, including three Single Cask releases. This boutique brand is part of the independent whisky producer Ardgowan Distillery Company, which has been sourcing spirits since its founding in 2016. Located in Inverclyde, Ardgowan Distillery began distilling its own malt whisky in June. While waiting for its own malt to mature, the launch of Clydebuilt allows the company to showcase its expertise in cask management and the art of blending. The name Clydebuilt pays homage to the world-renowned shipbuilding tradition of the River Clyde, a term synonymous with high-quality craftsmanship.

Demonstrating continued commitment to the brand, the company has invested £5 million in acquiring mature malt whisky stocks, with plans to invest another £4 million in 2026. Ardgowan CEO Roland Grain explained that this move ensures Clydebuilt has a solid foundation for decades to come, leading up to the full maturation of Ardgowan's single malt. This is also a key step toward the company's goal of doubling annual turnover every year until 2030. Ardgowan’s Master Whisky Maker and Distillery Manager, Laura Davies, oversaw the selection of these casks, which were aged in the distillery’s traditional dunnage warehouses.

The latest release includes one Blended Malt and three Single Cask Single Malts. Highlights include a 27-year-old Sherry-matured Blended Malt, alongside single casks from Fettercairn Distillery, Royal Brackla Distillery, and Ben Nevis Distillery. All four new Clydebuilt products are bottled at natural cask strength, without added coloring or chill-filtration, to preserve their full flavor and character.

Laura Davies emphasized that like the shipbuilders of the Clyde, the Clydebuilt brand is built on craftsmanship and pride in quality. This year’s £5 million investment secures a bright future for the brand. Furthermore, Ardgowan announced in September a series of new distribution partnerships for Clydebuilt across key markets in Europe, North America, and Asia, significantly enhancing its global accessibility. These new bottlings are available at specialist retailers starting today.
