Bowmore Unveils 11-Year-Old Single Malt Exclusively for Travel Retail
Bowmore, the oldest legal distillery on Scotland's Islay island, has introduced another single malt whisky aged 11 years, exclusively for international travelers. This follows the earlier launch of the Appellations series, also designed for the travel retail market. The new whisky is intended to fill a void in the brand's existing product line between entry-level offerings and its high-end premium whiskies, presenting a more appealing choice for travelers.
The Bowmore 11 Year Old honors traditional distilling craftsmanship while artfully incorporating sherry cask influences. This whisky was first matured in ex-bourbon casks before undergoing a secondary maturation in Spanish oak sherry casks. The distillery describes this process as creating a highly expressive whisky. According to the official tasting notes, the whisky exhibits notes of smoke and dark chocolate, with aromas of walnut brittle and fresh sourdough. Additionally, sweet layers of red berries, bright citrus creaminess, and a lingering pine resin character can be savored.
Bowmore distillery, operating continuously since 1779, has released this 11-year-old single malt in response to evolving consumer preferences in the travel retail sector. The new release not only retains Bowmore's signature Islay style but also integrates the sherry cask influence, which is increasingly popular among whisky enthusiasts.
Gareth Jones, General Manager of GTR Europe and Americas at Suntory Global Spirits, stated, 'Today's travelers are looking for products that offer both heritage and innovative elevation, and this exclusive bottling is perfectly suited for the travel retail channel. It pays homage to the unique and layered terroir of Islay, from its dramatic coastlines to its peat-rich marshes and heather-covered hills, with every drop delivering the distinctive Bowmore spirit.'
Kirsteen Beeston, Global Marketing Director at Bowmore, highlighted that this 11-year-old single malt successfully addresses a specific gap in the brand's Scotch whisky portfolio, particularly between non-age statement and entry-level single malts. It is anticipated to quickly capture the attention of travel retailers and consumers, aligning with the growth trend in global luxury spirits.
