2025 World Whiskies Awards: Tennessee Whiskey and Bourbon Shine

The 2025 World Whiskies Awards results were announced on March 26, with multiple Tennessee whiskeys standing out, showcasing the region's unique Lincoln County Process and brewing traditions. The winning selections include both classic brand innovations and new distillery creations. Here are the key winners:

1. Jack Daniel’s 12 Year Old Batch #2 won the category gold medal. This whiskey uses a classic recipe of 80% corn, 12% malted barley, and 8% rye, filtered through sugar maple charcoal and aged for 12 years in new American oak barrels at 107 proof, offering rich flavors of caramelized banana and brandy-soaked fruits.

2. Uncle Nearest Master Blend Edition Batch 32 also received a gold medal. It was meticulously blended by fifth-generation master blender Victoria Eady Butler, with each batch being a unique limited edition. The brand honors Nearest Green, the first African American master distiller in American whiskey history, with its distillery located in Shelbyville, Tennessee.

3. Old Glory Distilling Co. Tennessee Whiskey Bottled-in-Bond secured a silver medal. It strictly adheres to the 1897 Bottled-in-Bond Act, using a recipe of 73% corn, 19% wheat, and 8% malted barley, aged for over four years in #3 charred oak barrels.

4. Bib & Tucker 6 Year Old, though labeled as bourbon, earned a silver medal in the Tennessee whiskey category due to its Lincoln County Process. Its 92-proof body features flavors of pecan pie and chestnuts.

5. Uncle Nearest 1856 Premium won a bronze medal. As the brand's inaugural core expression, it blends multiple aged Tennessee whiskeys at 100 proof, balancing flavors of caramelized nuts and milk chocolate.

This year's awards highlight the diverse development of Tennessee whiskey, from Jack Daniel’s historic release of age-stated expressions to Uncle Nearest’s innovative blends rooted in cultural heritage, showcasing the region’s potential to challenge Kentucky’s whiskey dominance.
