Aberargie Inaugural Single Malt Scotch Whisky Release Imminent
One of Scotland’s historic whisky families is approaching a special moment—the impending release of Aberargie’s Inaugural Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Less than a hundred days remain until the official unveiling, expected in March 2026. This debut represents nearly a decade of patience, masterful craftsmanship, and family commitment.
Aberargie Distillery was established in 2017 on the Morrison family’s 300-acre farm, seven miles south of Perth. Whisky production here truly returns to its origins, practicing the “barley-to-bottle” philosophy. One hundred percent of the barley used for Aberargie whisky is a traditional, heritage variety grown by the family itself, sourced entirely from the distillery’s land. This complete in-house process encompasses barley cultivation, distillation, warehousing, blending, and bottling, ensuring full traceability from seed to spirit, capturing the regional terroir, and guaranteeing uncompromising quality.
The essence of Aberargie’s flavor lies in “Golden Promise”—a heritage barley variety favored by top Scotch distillers during the 1960s and 70s. Although its yield is lower than modern varieties, its flavor advantages are unparalleled, capable of producing a full-bodied, malty, rich, oily, and layered spirit.
Graeme Mackeddie, Head of Distillation, stated that since filling the first casks in 2017, they have waited patiently for the moment to share Aberargie with the world. As the countdown to the release intensifies, anticipation builds within the distillery. This inaugural whisky is shaped by flavor first, defined by traditional barley, natural depth, and a profound sense of place.
Managing Director Niel Hendriksz emphasized that this milestone is profoundly significant. Every stage of the whisky—cultivation, distillation, and aging—is completed on the family’s land, marking a “true return home” for the Morrison family.
This release signals the first time the Morrison family has distilled on their own land since selling Morrison Bowmore in 1994. While Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers currently owns brands like Old Perth, Mac-Talla, and Bruadar, Aberargie is poised to become the company’s flagship brand.
