Tobermory Distillery has announced the release of Ledaig Castaway, a new limited-edition peated single malt Scotch whisky. Hailing from the Isle of Mull, this expression is the first in the Ledaig range to combine Mexican Tequila casks and Caribbean Rum casks for finishing. Bottled at a robust 61.1% ABV cask strength, it seamlessly merges the island's signature maritime peat smoke with vibrant tropical fruit notes, showcasing a bold spirit of experimentation.

Master Craftsmanship: Adding Layers of Tropical Fruit to Peated Spirit

Master Blender Julieann Fernandez noted that combining Tequila and Rum casks was an unprecedented venture, adding layers of ripe fruit and citrus to the peated spirit. Official tasting notes describe grilled pineapple, mango, citrus, and a hint of agave, accompanied by honeyed vanilla and spices, finishing with a long, smoky tail. This combination is both surprising and deeply connected to the distillery's soul, highlighting a unique island coastal charm.

Protecting the Isle: Community Commitment and Nature Conservation

This release continues the partnership with the Mull and Iona Community Trust. The packaging features the Rubha nan Gall Lighthouse, situated at the entrance to Tobermory Bay. This launch will support the Trust's Ranger Service, helping to maintain Isle of Mull trails and protect natural landscapes, reflecting the brand's commitment to giving back. Through this collaboration, the distillery has provided significant support for local environmental projects.
