Tamdhu Launches Premium 21-Year-Old Single Malt Whisky
Speyside distillery Tamdhu has unveiled a new 21-year-old single malt whisky, further enriching its sherry cask maturation series. This limited-edition release, named Tamdhu 21 Year Old, is fully matured in Oloroso sherry casks with an ABV of 47.5%.
Tamdhu distillery manager Sandy McIntyre emphasized the brand's commitment to quality aging. Tamdhu 21YO showcases our patience and dedication in every sip. This new expression perfectly embodies our promise of the journey from Spain to Speyside. The Oloroso sherry casks from Spain impart exceptional flavors, allowing Tamdhu, born in the pristine lands of Scotland, to deliver a uniquely refined taste.
Spanish elements are at the core of Tamdhu's identity. Founded in 1897 and now owned by family business Ian Macleod Distillers, the distillery is renowned for exclusively using Oloroso sherry casks. This signature is reflected in the packaging design—the iconic octagonal bottle housed in a royal green镂空 gift box, featuring Spanish-Moorish design elements that nod to the sherry casks' southern Spanish origins. The wooden gold cap and gold sleeve add a touch of luxury.
According to the distillery, these special oak casks are crafted from wood sourced in Spain and North America, with all coopering done at a family workshop in Jerez, Spain.
Tamdhu global brand ambassador Gordon Dundas described the unique flavor profile of the 21-year-old expression. Like all Tamdhu single malts, this limited-edition coming-of-age release is fully matured in Oloroso sherry casks, showcasing a completely natural color and an elegantly distinctive flavor. Tasting notes highlight aromas of sherry oak, chocolate, raisins, velvety toffee, and warm cinnamon oatmeal, with hints of mocha and marzipan. The palate offers Christmas cake flavors, blending sherry-soaked raisins, candied orange peel, and gentle oak. The finish is long and smooth, with layered oak and warm spices transitioning into rich candied fruit flavors.
Despite the strong Spanish influence in maturation, Tamdhu still uses local spring water from the River Spey, maintaining its connection to Speyside's terroir.
