The World's Only Complete 19-Bottle Set Debuts: Witnessing the Legend of 25-Year-Old Single Malt

British whisky broker Mark Littler Ltd has been commissioned by a private collector to sell a complete collection of The Macallan Anniversary Malt. It is believed to be the only known complete 19-bottle set on the market, meticulously curated by Danielle “Dany” Smeyers over more than twenty years. The The Macallan Anniversary Malt series, first launched in 1983, was the world’s first distillery-released, age-stated 25-year-old single malt whisky series.

Redefining Premium Scotch Whisky

Mark Littler believes that The Macallan Anniversary Malts are regarded by many as the most important whisky series ever created. He further noted that when the series launched in 1983, the single malt category was still emerging. Introducing such a structured, age-stated 25-year-old series was a groundbreaking move that arguably changed the trajectory of premium Scotch whisky. The collection covers distillation years from the late 1950s to the mid-1970s, as well as all non-vintage versions released under the Anniversary Malt name.

Two Decades of Collecting Passion

Smeyers began her collection after a visit to Scotland in the late 1990s. She admitted that she didn't initially plan to collect the full set; she simply fell in love with Macallan, feeling that the first bottle of Anniversary Malt perfectly captured the essence of the distillery’s whisky, which began this joyful collecting journey.

Pursuit of Perfect Condition and Completeness

A highlight of this set is the exceptional condition of every bottle, a focus Smeyers maintained throughout the acquisition process. Each bottle has a clear fill level at the neck and comes with its original presentation box. Smeyers explained that her standards for condition were extremely high, only purchasing bottles with perfect fill levels and original boxes because her goal was to collect the finest examples.

Due to its rarity and superb condition, this set is incredibly difficult to replicate. Mark Littler stated that in his decades-long career, having handled hundreds of thousands of bottles of whisky, he has never seen a complete set of Macallan Anniversary Malts surface, and as far as he knows, this is the only complete series in the world. He emphasized that the excellence of this collection lies not only in its completeness but also in its state of preservation, noting it is unlikely that a collection of this caliber could ever be assembled again.

Having completed the collection, Smeyers felt it reached a natural conclusion to her journey and decided to pass these treasures to the next person who will appreciate them.
