Renowned Taiwanese distillery Kavalan has triumphed at the Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition (TWSC) 2026, where its flagship Kavalan Solist Oloroso Sherry Single Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky was awarded the highest overall honor, "Best of the Best Single Malt." This marks the distillery's seventh world championship title at the event and its fourth consecutive win as the best of the best, once again demonstrating Taiwan's premier whisky-making prowess on the global stage.

King Car Group Chairman Lee Yu-to expressed deep honor at receiving the TWSC's top award once again, noting that it is especially gratifying to see this iconic Asian expression, the Solist Oloroso Sherry Cask, receive such recognition. Furthermore, Kavalan Distillery was named "Best Asian Distillery of the Year" at the competition, while the Kavalan Concertmaster Vinho Barrique Finish Single Malt Whisky officially entered the TWSC Hall of Fame after receiving gold medals for three consecutive years.

Overwhelming Strength Claiming 6 of the Top 10 Spots

In the final Top 10 rankings, Kavalan showcased overwhelming strength by capturing 6 out of the top 10 positions, including both 1st and 2nd place, with the remaining spots divided among Scottish and Japanese whiskies. This stellar achievement follows Kavalan's strong performance announced in May this year, when the distillery set a historical record by winning 7 Superior Gold and 15 Gold medals across categories including sherry cask, madeira cask, wine cask, peated, and cask finish.

Judges' Tasting Notes on the Perfect Sherry Cask Maturation

The TWSC judging panel gave glowing praise to the award-winning whisky, describing it as the pinnacle of sherry cask maturation. They lauded its rich, multi-layered aromas of dried fruit, cinnamon, clove, chocolate, and mature sherry, accompanied by a rich sweetness, balanced complexity, and an exceptionally long finish. According to official tasting notes, the palate is robust, featuring notes of dried fruit, toasted nuts, marzipan, and vanilla, rounded out by warm spices and a hint of premium coffee on the finish.
