InchDairnie Debuts First Single Malt Whisky Range

After much anticipation, InchDairnie Distillery has finally launched its first single malt whisky. The new releases include KinGlassie Double Matured 8 Year Old and KinGlassie Raw 8 Year Old, alongside RyeLaw Vintage 2018, which is a single grain whisky.

The modern InchDairnie distillery began operations ten years ago in December 2015 in Fife, Scotland. Two years ago, they first entered the market with the single grain whisky RyeLaw instead of the expected single malt. RyeLaw contains a high proportion of 53 percent rye and 47 percent barley malt. Despite the high rye content, it is classified as grain whisky due to the lack of a rye whisky category in Scottish law.

InchDairnie’s single malt series is named KinGlassie after a nearby village and undergoes double distillation. Both single malts are produced using heavily peated malt. Since this 50ppm peated malt is only used for two weeks every December, intense smoky whisky is not the distillery’s primary output.

Specifically, KinGlassie Double Matured 8 Year Old was matured for five years in ex-bourbon casks before being transferred to first-fill Amontillado sherry casks for three years. This brings layers of almond smoke, balanced depth, tobacco warmth, and nutty richness with a smooth finish.

KinGlassie Raw 8 Year Old was matured entirely in ex-bourbon casks, showcasing an intense smokiness similar to a fireplace fire, intricately blended with sweet malt flavors.

RyeLaw Vintage 2018 continues the legacy of the distillery’s first whisky, using the same recipe with rich spice notes, caramelized dried fruits, and aromatic warmth.

All three whiskies are non-chill filtered, bottled with natural color, and have an alcohol content of 46.3 percent vol.

Founded by Ian Palmer, InchDairnie is renowned as a high-tech distillery using cutting-edge technology and engineering to extract maximum flavor. Key technical highlights include using a mash filter press instead of a traditional mash tun to increase sugar concentration, double condensers for excellent copper contact, precise cask management, and high environmental performance, consuming 30 percent less energy than the industry average.
