The authority in whisky glassware, Glencairn Glass, has announced the return of its highly anticipated annual Crime Short Story Competition. Now in its fourth year, this contest is held in partnership with the prestigious Bloody Scotland International Crime Writing Festival, providing a professional platform for crime fiction creators worldwide to showcase their talent.

2026 Rules: Seeking Protagonists from Scotland
According to the competition rules, entries are open from January 14th until the deadline of March 31, 2026. Both established authors and newcomers are invited to submit an original crime story of up to 2,000 words. A core requirement for this year's competition is that the story's protagonist must be from Scotland.
The winning story will be published on the official websites of Bloody Scotland and Glencairn Glass. The overall winner will be invited as a guest to the Bloody Scotland Festival in September 2026 and, along with the runner-up, will receive a set of six bespoke Glencairn Glasses engraved with exclusive designs.
Deepening Literary Ties: Uncovering Future Stars
Glencairn Crystal has deep roots in the Scottish crime writing scene, actively sponsoring the McIlvanney Prize and the Bloody Scotland Debut Crime Novel of the Year since 2020. Many past participants have successfully launched their writing careers through this platform. For instance, 2022/23 finalist Allan Gaw won the 2024 Debut Prize and secured a multi-book deal, while the first winner, Brid Cummings, signed with a major UK literary agency.
This year's judging panel includes Kirsty Nicholson, Design and Marketing Manager at Glencairn Crystal, joined for the first time by six prominent UK book influencers, including Kevin Woolard and Mary Picken. Interested writers can submit their work via the official website, with final results expected in the summer of next year.
