Foursquare Unveils 16-Year-Old Mandamus Rum
Barbados’ Foursquare Rum Distillery has announced the latest addition to its Exceptional Cask Selection ECS series, the Mark XXIX Mandamus. This 16-year-old single blended rum undergoes a double maturation process.
Mandamus began its aging journey in ex-bourbon barrels for a decade before being transferred to ex-port pipes for an additional six years. This marks the third time Foursquare’s Master Distiller and Master Blender Richard Seale has utilized ex-port barrels in his ECS series. Previously, he released the Mark II, Port Cask Finish in June 2014 and the Mark XIV, Détente in August 2020, both featuring this type of cask.
This Mandamus bottling is at 57% ABV 114 proof.
The ECS series is renowned for its limited, rare, and high-quality releases, with each expression personally selected by Seale. Foursquare upholds a commitment to completing all blending, aging, and bottling at their distillery in Saint Philip, Barbados. Mandamus contains no added coloring, sugar, or flavorings, and is non-chill filtered.
The definition of Single Blended Rum refers to a blend of heavy and light-bodied rums produced by a single distillery. This reflects Foursquare’s distillation philosophy and their advocacy for transparency in rum classification.
Foursquare Rum Distillery is situated on an old sugar plantation dating back to the 1720s, with the Seale family resuming operations in 1996. Richard Seale is the fourth generation of his family to be involved in the rum industry. Under his leadership, Foursquare has garnered international acclaim for its dedication to traditional production methods and has contributed to the growth of the premium rum market globally.
