The rum is reported to have been distilled from molasses in Cuba during the 1940s and 1950s, before the Cuban Revolution and the nationalisation of the country’s rum industry.  After distillation, it was shipped to Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, where it was retained and matured in oak casks previously used for ageing Oloroso Sherry; younger aged rums were reportedly introduced over time under Valdespino’s traditional solera system.
